Mozambique

With a territorial extension of approximately 801 thousand square kilometers, Mozambique is located in the southeastern portion of the African continent. Its territory, washed to the east and south by the Indian Ocean, is limited to the north by Tanzania, to the northwest by Malawi, to the west by Zambia and Zimbabwe and to the southwest by South Africa and Swaziland.

Mozambique is a former Portuguese colony. Portuguese, although spoken by less than 40% of the population, is the official language of the country – Mozambique is part of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP). National independence was won in 1975 and, after this feat, a civil war broke out, responsible for the death of more than 1 million people and the destruction of the national infrastructure, directly affecting the economy.

However, the country has made efforts to achieve political stability and rebuild the economy. Mozambique is home to large reserves of oil, natural gas, coal, gold, bauxite and other minerals. This richness of the soil has attracted large foreign investments. Agricultural activity, on the other hand, is extremely affected by the extensive periods of drought, in addition to frequent floods.
